[1472] "And what, Ānanda, is that mirror of the Dhamma (dhammādāsa), that exposition of the Dhamma (dhammapariyāya), possessed of which a noble disciple (ariyasāvaka), if he so wishes, might declare of himself: 'Finished for me is hell, finished the animal realm, finished the realm of ghosts (pettivisaya), finished the plane of misery, the bad destination, the lower world; I am a stream-enterer (sotāpanna), no longer subject to downfall, fixed in destiny, with awakening as my final goal'?
Here, Ānanda, a noble disciple is possessed of confirmed confidence (aveccappasāda) in the Buddha: 'Thus indeed is that Blessed One … teacher of devas and humans, the Awakened One, the Blessed One.' … in the Dhamma … in the Saṅgha …. He is possessed of the virtues dear to the noble ones — unbroken … conducive to concentration (samādhi).
This, Ānanda, is that mirror of the Dhamma, that exposition of the Dhamma, possessed of which a noble disciple, if he so wishes, might declare of himself: 'Finished for me is hell, finished the animal realm, finished the realm of ghosts, finished the plane of misery, the bad destination, the lower world; I am a stream-enterer, no longer subject to downfall, fixed in destiny, with awakening as my final goal.'"
