[1493] "Bhikkhus, those for whom you have compassion, and those who would think you worth listening to (sotabbaṁ maññeyyuṁ)—whether friends or companions, relatives or blood-relations—they, bhikkhus, should be encouraged in, settled in, and established in the four factors of stream-entry (sotāpattiyaṅga). In which four? They should be encouraged in, settled in, and established in confirmed confidence (aveccappasāda) in the Buddha: 'Thus indeed is that Blessed One … teacher of devas and humans, Buddha, Blessed One.' … in the Dhamma … in the Saṅgha … They should be encouraged in, settled in, and established in the virtues dear to the noble ones—unbroken … conducive to concentration (samādhi). Bhikkhus, those for whom you have compassion, and those who would think you worth listening to—whether friends or companions, relatives or blood-relations—they, bhikkhus, should be encouraged in, settled in, and established in these four factors of stream-entry."
