[1492] Bhikkhus, a noble disciple (ariyasāvaka) who possesses four things has transcended all peril of bad destinations and states of deprivation (duggativinipāta). What four? Here, bhikkhus, a noble disciple possesses unwavering confidence (aveccappasāda) in the Buddha: "Thus indeed is that Blessed One … teacher of devas and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One." … in the Dhamma … in the Saṅgha … He possesses the virtues dear to the noble ones—unbroken … conducive to concentration (samādhi). Bhikkhus, a noble disciple who possesses these four things has transcended all peril of bad destinations and states of deprivation.
