[1541] But here, Mahānāma, a certain person is wholly devoted to and fully confident in the Buddha: "Thus indeed is that Blessed One … teacher of devas and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One." In the Dhamma … in the Saṅgha …. He is one of joyous wisdom (hāsapañña) and swift wisdom (javanapañña), but is not endowed with liberation (vimutti). With the utter destruction of the five lower fetters (orambhāgiyāni saṃyojanāni), he becomes an attainer of final Nibbāna in the interval (antarāparinibbāyī), an attainer of final Nibbāna upon landing (upahaccaparinibbāyī), an attainer of final Nibbāna without exertion (asaṅkhāraparinibbāyī), an attainer of final Nibbāna with exertion (sasaṅkhāraparinibbāyī), or one bound upstream, heading to the Akaniṭṭha realm (uddhaṃsoto akaniṭṭhagāmī). This person too, Mahānāma, is freed from hell, freed from the animal womb, freed from the domain of ghosts, freed from the plane of misery, the bad destination, the lower world.
