[1544] Here again, Mahānāma, a certain person is not wholly settled in and firmly confident in the Buddha … nor in the Dhamma … nor in the Saṅgha. He is not one of joyous wisdom (hāsapañña), not one of swift wisdom (javanapañña), and he is not endowed with liberation (vimutti). Yet he has these qualities: the faculty of faith (saddhindriya) … the faculty of wisdom (paññindriya); and the teachings proclaimed by the Tathāgata gain his reflective acceptance, pondered to a sufficient degree with wisdom. This person too, Mahānāma, is one who does not go to hell (niraya), does not go to the animal womb, does not go to the realm of ghosts (pittivisaya), does not go to the plane of misery, the bad destination, the lower realm.
