[1571] "Householder, for an uninstructed worldling (puthujjana) who possesses four qualities there is terror, there is trembling, there is fear of death regarding the hereafter. What four? Here, householder, an uninstructed worldling possesses lack of confidence (appasāda) in the Buddha; and when he considers within himself that lack of confidence in the Buddha, there is terror, there is trembling, there is fear of death regarding the hereafter.
Again, householder, an uninstructed worldling possesses lack of confidence in the Dhamma; and when he considers within himself that lack of confidence in the Dhamma, there is terror, there is trembling, there is fear of death regarding the hereafter.
Again, householder, an uninstructed worldling possesses lack of confidence in the Saṅgha; and when he considers within himself that lack of confidence in the Saṅgha, there is terror, there is trembling, there is fear of death regarding the hereafter.
Again, householder, an uninstructed worldling possesses immorality (dussīlya); and when he considers within himself that immorality, there is terror, there is trembling, there is fear of death regarding the hereafter.
Householder, it is for an uninstructed worldling who possesses these four qualities that there is terror, there is trembling, there is fear of death regarding the hereafter."
