[1655] Bhikkhus, engage in the exertion of seclusion (paṭisallāna). Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu who is secluded understands as it really is. And what does he understand as it really is? He understands as it really is: 'This is suffering (dukkha)'; he understands as it really is: 'This is the origin of suffering'; he understands as it really is: 'This is the cessation of suffering'; he understands as it really is: 'This is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering.' Bhikkhus, engage in the exertion of seclusion. Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu who is secluded understands as it really is. Therefore, bhikkhus, exertion should be made: 'This is suffering'; exertion should be made: 'This is the origin of suffering'; exertion should be made: 'This is the cessation of suffering'; exertion should be made: 'This is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering.'
