[1702] Those who do not understand suffering (dukkha),
and the origin of suffering,
and where suffering in its entirety
ceases without remainder;
and who do not know that path
leading to the stilling of suffering—
they are deprived of the liberation of mind (cetovimutti)
and of the liberation by wisdom (paññāvimutti);
incapable of making an end,
they surely go on to birth and aging.
But those who understand suffering,
and the origin of suffering,
and where suffering in its entirety
ceases without remainder;
and who understand that path
leading to the stilling of suffering—
they are endowed with the liberation of mind
and with the liberation by wisdom;
capable of making an end,
they do not go on to birth and aging.
