[1704] At Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, whatever Arahants, Perfectly Awakened Ones, in the past fully awakened in accordance with reality (yathābhūta), all of them fully awakened to the Four Noble Truths as they really are. Whatever Arahants, Perfectly Awakened Ones, bhikkhus, in the future will fully awaken in accordance with reality, all of them will fully awaken to the Four Noble Truths as they really are. Whatever Arahants, Perfectly Awakened Ones, bhikkhus, at present fully awaken in accordance with reality, all of them fully awaken to the Four Noble Truths as they really are. What four? The noble truth of suffering (dukkha), the noble truth of the origin of suffering, the noble truth of the cessation of suffering, the noble truth of the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering. Whatever Arahants, Perfectly Awakened Ones, bhikkhus, in the past fully awakened, will fully awaken, and fully awaken in accordance with reality, all of them fully awaken to these Four Noble Truths as they really are. Therefore, bhikkhus, effort should be made [to understand]: 'This is suffering' … effort should be made [to understand]: 'This is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering.'"
