[1729] "Bhikkhus, whatever ascetics (samaṇa) or brahmins do not understand as it really is: 'This is suffering (dukkha)'; do not understand as it really is: 'This is the origin of suffering'; do not understand as it really is: 'This is the cessation of suffering'; do not understand as it really is: 'This is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering' — they delight in volitional formations that lead to birth, they delight in volitional formations that lead to aging, they delight in volitional formations that lead to death, they delight in volitional formations that lead to sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair. Delighting in volitional formations that lead to birth, delighting in volitional formations that lead to aging, delighting in volitional formations that lead to death, delighting in volitional formations that lead to sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair, they generate volitional formations that lead to birth, they generate volitional formations that lead to aging, they generate volitional formations that lead to death, they generate volitional formations that lead to sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair. Having generated volitional formations that lead to birth, having generated volitional formations that lead to aging, having generated volitional formations that lead to death, having generated volitional formations that lead to sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair, they fall into the precipice of birth, they fall into the precipice of aging, they fall into the precipice of death, they fall into the precipice of sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair. They are not freed from birth, aging, and death; they are not freed from sorrows, lamentations, pains, griefs, and despairs; they are not freed from suffering, I say."
