[1793] Just so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, having passed away from the human state, are reborn among humans; rather, far more numerous are those beings who, having passed away from the human state, are reborn in the animal realm (tiracchānayoni). (By this method the five destinations (gati) should be elaborated.) Just so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, having passed away from the human state, are reborn among the devas; rather, far more numerous are those beings who, having passed away from the human state, are reborn in hell (niraya). … are reborn in the animal realm. … are reborn in the realm of ghosts (pettivisaya).
