[206] Bhikkhus, just as in this Jambudīpa the delightful parks, delightful groves, delightful stretches of land, and delightful lotus ponds are few, while more numerous are the rugged slopes and ravines, the rivers difficult to cross, the tracts of stumps and thorns, and the rugged mountains — even so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, passing away from among humans, are reborn among humans; far more numerous are those beings who, passing away from among humans, are reborn in hell, are reborn in the animal realm (tiracchānayoni), are reborn in the realm of hungry ghosts (pittivisaya). Even so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, passing away from among humans, are reborn among devas; far more numerous are those beings who, passing away from among humans, are reborn in hell, are reborn in the animal realm, are reborn in the realm of hungry ghosts. Even so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, passing away from among devas, are reborn among devas; far more numerous are those beings who, passing away from among devas, are reborn in hell, are reborn in the animal realm, are reborn in the realm of hungry ghosts. Even so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, passing away from among devas, are reborn among humans; far more numerous are those beings who, passing away from among devas, are reborn in hell, are reborn in the animal realm, are reborn in the realm of hungry ghosts. Even so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, passing away from hell, are reborn among humans; far more numerous are those beings who, passing away from hell, are reborn in hell, are reborn in the animal realm, are reborn in the realm of hungry ghosts. Even so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, passing away from hell, are reborn among devas; far more numerous are those beings who, passing away from hell, are reborn in hell, are reborn in the animal realm, are reborn in the realm of hungry ghosts. Even so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, passing away from the animal realm, are reborn among humans; far more numerous are those beings who, passing away from the animal realm, are reborn in hell, are reborn in the animal realm, are reborn in the realm of hungry ghosts. Even so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, passing away from the animal realm, are reborn among devas; far more numerous are those beings who, passing away from the animal realm, are reborn in hell, are reborn in the animal realm, are reborn in the realm of hungry ghosts. Even so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, passing away from the realm of hungry ghosts, are reborn among humans; far more numerous are those beings who, passing away from the realm of hungry ghosts, are reborn in hell, are reborn in the animal realm, are reborn in the realm of hungry ghosts. Even so, bhikkhus, few are those beings who, passing away from the realm of hungry ghosts, are reborn among devas; far more numerous are those beings who, passing away from the realm of hungry ghosts, are reborn in hell, are reborn in the animal realm, are reborn in the realm of hungry ghosts.
