[243] Setting at Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, just as whatever great rivers there are — that is, the Gaṅgā, the Yamunā, the Aciravatī, the Sarabhū, and the Mahī — all of them slant toward the ocean, slope toward the ocean, incline toward the ocean; even so, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu who is developing the Noble Eightfold Path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga), who is cultivating the Noble Eightfold Path, slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna.
