[575] "Friends, the ascetic Gotama teaches the Dhamma to his disciples thus: 'Come, bhikkhus, having abandoned the five hindrances (nīvaraṇa), corruptions of the mind (citta) that weaken wisdom, dwell pervading one quarter with a mind imbued with loving-kindness (mettā); likewise the second; likewise the third; likewise the fourth. Thus above, below, across, everywhere, to all as to oneself, dwell pervading the entire world with a mind imbued with loving-kindness — abundant, exalted, immeasurable, without enmity, without ill will.'"
