[609] Furthermore, brahmin, on whatever occasion one dwells with a mind (citta) obsessed by restlessness and remorse (uddhacca-kukkucca), overcome by restlessness and remorse, and one does not understand and does not see as it really is (yathābhūta) the escape (nissaraṇa) from arisen restlessness and remorse — on that occasion one does not understand and does not see as it really is even one's own good; one does not understand and does not see … another's good; on that occasion one does not understand and does not see as it really is even the good of both. Even sacred texts (mantā) long recited do not recur to the mind, let alone those not recited.
