[714] At Sāvatthī. The Blessed One … . Then the Venerable Ānanda, in the morning, having dressed and taken his bowl and robe, approached a certain dwelling of bhikkhunīs; having approached, he sat down on a seat that had been prepared. Then a number of bhikkhunīs approached the Venerable Ānanda; having approached, they paid homage to the Venerable Ānanda and sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, those bhikkhunīs said this to the Venerable Ānanda: "Here, venerable Ānanda, a number of bhikkhunīs, dwelling with minds well established in the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna), perceive a lofty distinction, one state succeeding the other."
"So it is, sisters! So it is, sisters! For whoever, sisters—whether bhikkhu or bhikkhunī—dwells with a mind (citta) well established in the four establishments of mindfulness, of that one this may be expected: that they will perceive a lofty distinction, one state succeeding the other."
Then the Venerable Ānanda, having instructed, roused, inspired, and gladdened those bhikkhunīs with a talk on the Dhamma, rose from his seat and departed.
