Bāhiyasutta

Suttapiṭaka · Saṁyuttanikāya · Mahāvaggasaṁyutta · Vol. 19 · Section 748

[748] "But when, Bāhiya, your virtue (sīla) is well purified and your view is straight, then, Bāhiya, relying upon virtue, established in virtue, you should develop the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna). What four? Here, Bāhiya, dwell contemplating the body in the body, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. In feelings (vedanā) … in the mind (citta) … dwell contemplating dhammas in dhammas, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. "When, Bāhiya, relying upon virtue, established in virtue, you develop these four establishments of mindfulness in this way, then, Bāhiya, whatever night or day shall come, only growth in wholesome states is to be expected for you, not decline."
