Viraddhasutta

[801] Bhikkhus, whosoever have neglected (viraddhā) the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) have neglected the noble eightfold path (magga) that leads to the complete destruction of suffering (dukkha). Bhikkhus, whosoever have undertaken (āraddhā) the four establishments of mindfulness have undertaken the noble eightfold path that leads to the complete destruction of suffering. What four? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body, ardent, clearly comprehending, possessed of mindfulness, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. Regarding feelings (vedanā) … regarding the mind (citta) … he dwells contemplating dhammas in dhammas, ardent, clearly comprehending, possessed of mindfulness, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. Bhikkhus, whosoever have neglected these four establishments of mindfulness have neglected the noble eightfold path that leads to the complete destruction of suffering. Bhikkhus, whosoever have undertaken these four establishments of mindfulness have undertaken the noble eightfold path that leads to the complete destruction of suffering.
