[823] "So it is, Blessed One! So it is, Fortunate One (Sugata)! Venerable sir, this is the one-way path (ekāyana) for the purification of beings, for the surmounting of sorrow and lamentation, for the passing away of pain and grief, for the attainment of the true way (ñāya), for the realization of Nibbāna — namely, the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna). What four? Venerable sir, a bhikkhu should dwell contemplating the body in the body … or in feelings (vedanā) … or in mind (citta) … or, venerable sir, a bhikkhu should dwell contemplating dhammas in dhammas — ardent, clearly comprehending, possessed of mindfulness, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. Venerable sir, this is the one-way path for the purification of beings, for the surmounting of sorrow and lamentation, for the passing away of pain and grief, for the attainment of the true way, for the realization of Nibbāna — namely, the four establishments of mindfulness."
