[836] Bhikkhus, for the full understanding (pariññā) of these three feelings (vedanā), the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) should be developed. What four? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. He dwells contemplating … in feelings … in the mind (citta) … dhammas in dhammas, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. Bhikkhus, it is for the full understanding of these three feelings that these four establishments of mindfulness should be developed.
