[910] Bhikkhus, any ascetics or brahmins whatsoever who do not understand as it really is the origin, the passing away, the gratification, the danger, and the escape in regard to these six faculties (indriya) — those, bhikkhus, I do not reckon as ascetics among ascetics or as brahmins among brahmins; nor do those venerable ones, having realized it for themselves with direct knowledge (abhiññā) in this very life, enter upon and dwell in the goal of asceticism or the goal of brahminhood.
