[952] Bhikkhus, in dependence on a contact (phassa) to be experienced as joy, the joy faculty (somanassindriya) arises. Being glad-minded, one understands: 'I am glad-minded.' One understands: 'With the cessation of that very contact to be experienced as joy, the corresponding feeling — the joy faculty that arose in dependence on that contact to be experienced as joy — ceases, it subsides.'
