[188] "Name" (nāmaṃ) means: there are two names — a low name and an exalted name.
A low name means: Avakaṇṇaka, Javakaṇṇaka, Dhaniṭṭhaka, Saviṭṭhaka, Kulavaḍḍhaka; or else, in this or that region, a name that is scorned, despised, disdained, treated with contempt, held in no esteem — this is a low name.
An exalted name means: one connected with the Buddha, connected with the Dhamma, connected with the Saṅgha; or else, in this or that region, a name that is not scorned, not despised, not disdained, not treated with contempt, held in esteem — this is an exalted name.
