[3] **"When the robe is finished"** means: the bhikkhu's robe has been made, or has been lost, or has been destroyed, or has been burnt, or the expectation of a robe has been cut off.
**"When the kaṭhina has been withdrawn"** means: it has been withdrawn by any one of the eight grounds (mātikā), or it has been withdrawn by the Saṅgha in the interim.
**"For ten days at most"** means: it may be kept for a maximum of ten days.
**"Extra robe-cloth" (atirekacīvara)** means: cloth that has not been determined (anadhiṭṭhita) and not assigned (avikappita).
**"Robe-cloth" (cīvara)** means: any one of the six kinds of robe-cloth, at minimum of a size eligible for assignment (vikappana).
**"Should he let that exceed [the limit], it becomes subject to forfeiture"** means: at the arising of dawn on the eleventh day it becomes subject to forfeiture (nissaggiya); it should be forfeited to the Saṅgha, to a group, or to an individual. And thus, bhikkhus, should it be forfeited.
