[463] **"Whoever" (yo pana)**: whoever, of whatever sort … **"Bhikkhu"**: … this is the bhikkhu intended in this sense.
**"Knows" (jānāti)** means: either he knows of himself, or others inform him, or she herself informs him.
**"Bhikkhunī"** means: one fully ordained in both Saṅghas.
**"Prompts" (paripāceti)** means: to those who previously had no wish to give and no wish to prepare, [she says]: "The master is a reciter, the master is very learned, the master is an expert in the Suttantas, the master is a bearer of the Vinaya (vinayadhara), the master is a speaker on the Dhamma; give to the master, prepare for the master" — this is what is called "prompting."
**"Almsfood" (piṇḍapāta)** means: any one of the five [kinds of] food.
**"Except when previously initiated by householders" (aññatra pubbe gihisamārambhā)**: setting aside what has been initiated by householders.
**"Initiated by householders" (gihisamārambha)** means: they are relatives, or they are people who have given an invitation (pavārita), or it was prepared in the customary way.
Except when previously initiated by householders, if he accepts it, [thinking] "I shall eat," there is an offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa). For every mouthful, there is an offense of pācittiya.
