[493] There is no offense: if he eats on an occasion; if he eats having assigned it (vikappetvā); if he eats two or three invitations together; if he eats according to the order of the invitations; if, invited by an entire village, he eats anywhere in that village; if, invited by an entire guild (pūga), he eats anywhere among that guild; if, when being invited, he says, "I shall take almsfood"; in the case of a regular meal (niccabhatta), a ticket-meal (salākabhatta), a fortnightly meal, an uposatha-day meal, or a meal on the day after the uposatha (pāṭipadika) — excepting the five [staple] foods, there is no offense in all cases; for one who is mad; for the first offender (ādikammika).
