[497] "Having taken it away from there, he should share it with the bhikkhus" means: having taken it to the refectory (paṭikkamana), it should be shared out. "This is the proper conduct (sāmīci) in that case" means: this is conformity with the rule (anudhammatā) in that case.
When it is more than two or three bowlfuls, and he perceives it as more, and he accepts it, there is an offence entailing expiation (pācittiya). When it is more than two or three bowlfuls, and he is in doubt, and he accepts it, there is an offence entailing expiation. When it is more than two or three bowlfuls, and he perceives it as less, and he accepts it, there is an offence entailing expiation.
When it is less than two or three bowlfuls, and he perceives it as more, there is an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). When it is less than two or three bowlfuls, and he is in doubt, there is an offence of wrong-doing. When it is less than two or three bowlfuls, and he perceives it as less, there is no offence (anāpatti).
