[534] There is no offense (anāpatti): if he dismisses him thinking, "The two of us together will not get enough to sustain ourselves"; if he dismisses him thinking, "Having seen goods of great value, he will give rise to a state of greed (lobha)"; if he dismisses him thinking, "Having seen a woman, he will give rise to discontent (anabhirati)"; if he dismisses him saying, "Take rice-gruel or boiled rice¹ or hard food or soft food to one who is sick, or to one who has been left behind, or to a keeper of the dwelling"; if, not desiring to indulge in misconduct (anācāra), he dismisses him when there is something to be done; if he is insane; if he is the first offender (ādikammika).
