[577] When it is an intoxicant and he perceives it as an intoxicant and drinks it, there is an offense (āpatti) of pācittiya. When it is an intoxicant and he is in doubt and drinks it, there is an offense of pācittiya. When it is an intoxicant and he perceives it as not an intoxicant and drinks it, there is an offense of pācittiya. When it is not an intoxicant and he perceives it as an intoxicant, there is an offense of dukkaṭa. When it is not an intoxicant and he is in doubt, there is an offense of dukkaṭa. When it is not an intoxicant and he perceives it as not an intoxicant, there is no offense.
