[628] "Whoever" means: whoever, of whatever sort … "Bhikkhu" means: … this is the one intended as "bhikkhu" in this sense.
"Of a bhikkhu" means: of another bhikkhu.
"Bowl" (patta): there are two bowls — an iron bowl and a clay bowl.
"Robe" (cīvara): any one of the six kinds of robe-cloth; at minimum, one fit for assignment (vikappana).
"Sitting cloth" (nisīdana): one having a border is meant.
"Needle case" (sūcighara): whether with a needle or without a needle.
"Waistband" (kāyabandhana): there are two waistbands — one of woven strips (paṭṭikā) and one of the "pig's-entrails" kind (sūkarantaka).
"Should hide" means: he hides it himself — an offense of pācittiya. "Should have it hidden" means: he commands another — an offense of pācittiya. Being commanded once, even if he hides many, it is an offense of pācittiya.
"Even if only expecting a laugh" means: intending it as play.
