Vinayapiṭaka · Bhikkhu Vibhaṅga (2) · Vol. 2 · Section 670

[670] **Whoever:** whoever, of whatever sort … **Bhikkhu:** … this is the **bhikkhu** intended in this sense. **Knows** means: he knows by himself, or others inform him, or that one [the suspended bhikkhu] himself informs him. **With one who speaks thus:** with one who speaks in this way: "As I understand the Dhamma taught by the Blessed One, those things declared by the Blessed One to be obstructive are not truly able to obstruct one who indulges in them." **One who has not been dealt with according to the rule (akaṭānudhamma)** means: one who has been suspended (ukkhitta) and not been restored [to the community]. **Together with one who has not relinquished that view** means: together with one who has not relinquished this view. **Or should share communion with him:** as for communion (sambhoga), there are two kinds of communion: communion in material things and communion in Dhamma. **Communion in material things** means: he gives material things, or receives them — an offense of pācittiya. **Communion in Dhamma** means: he recites [the Dhamma], or has it recited. He recites, or has it recited, by the line: for every line, an offense of pācittiya. He recites, or has it recited, by the syllable: for every syllable, an offense of pācittiya. **Or should live in communion with him:** he performs the uposatha, or the pavāraṇā, or a formal act of the Saṅgha (saṅghakamma) together with the suspended one — an offense of pācittiya. **Or should share a sleeping place with him:** under a single roof, when the suspended one is lying down and a bhikkhu lies down — an offense of pācittiya. When a bhikkhu is lying down and the suspended one lies down — an offense of pācittiya. Or both lie down — an offense of pācittiya. Having gotten up, he lies down again and again — an offense of pācittiya [each time].
