[724] "Whoever" (yo pana): whoever, of whatever sort … "bhikkhu" … this is the bhikkhu intended in this meaning here.
The Saṅgha called "united" (samagga): one of the same communion (samānasaṃvāsaka), standing within the same boundary (sīmā).
"Robe-cloth" (cīvara) means: any one of the six kinds of robe-cloth, at minimum one fit for assignment (vikappana).
"Having given": having given it oneself.
"According to acquaintance" (yathāsanthutaṃ) means: according to friendship, according to acquaintance, according to companionship, according to having the same preceptor, according to having the same teacher.
"Belonging to the Saṅgha" means: it has been given, relinquished, to the Saṅgha.
"Gain" (lābha) means: robe-cloth, almsfood, lodging, and medicinal requisites as supports for the sick; even a lump of bath-powder, a tooth-stick, or a thread from a hem.
"Should afterward engage in criticizing" (khīyanadhammaṃ āpajjeyya) means: when robe-cloth has been given to one fully ordained who has been agreed upon by the Saṅgha as assigner of lodgings, or as designator of meals, or as distributor of gruel, or as distributor of fruit, or as distributor of solid food, or as dispenser of small things — if he criticizes, there is an offense of pācittiya.
