[785] "Now, bhikkhus, invited, are eating among families" — "family" (kula) means: there are four families — a khattiya family, a brāhmaṇa family, a vessa family, a sudda family.
"Invited, are eating" means: having been invited with any one of the five foods, they eat.
"Bhikkhunī" means: one fully ordained in both Saṅghas.
"Giving directions" (vosāsantī) means: according to friendship, according to acquaintance, according to intimacy, according to having the same preceptor, according to having the same teacher, saying, "Give curry here, give rice here" — this is called "giving directions."
"By those bhikkhus" means: by the bhikkhus who are eating.
"That bhikkhunī" means: the bhikkhunī who is giving directions.
That bhikkhunī should be rebuked by those bhikkhus thus: "Withdraw, sister, while the bhikkhus are eating." If she has not been rebuked by even a single bhikkhu, and he accepts [food] thinking, "I shall chew, I shall eat" — there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). For every mouthful swallowed, there is an offense requiring acknowledgment (pāṭidesanīya).
