[827] Origin at Sāvatthī. Now on that occasion the group-of-six bhikkhus received almsfood looking about here and there; they did not know even when it was being poured in, nor even when it had overflowed … "I will receive almsfood attentive to the bowl (pattasaññī)" — thus the training is to be observed.
Almsfood is to be received by one attentive to the bowl. Whichever bhikkhu, out of disrespect, receives almsfood looking about here and there, incurs an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa).
There is no offense: for one acting unintentionally; for one acting absent-mindedly; for one who does not know; for one who is ill; in emergencies; for one who is insane; for the first offender.
