[831] Origin at Sāvatthī. Now on that occasion the group-of-six bhikkhus ate their almsfood looking about here and there; they did not notice even while it was being poured in, even when it had gone past … "I shall eat almsfood attending to the bowl (pattasaññī)" — thus the training is to be undertaken.
Almsfood should be eaten by one attending to the bowl. Whoever, out of disrespect, eats almsfood looking about here and there, commits an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa).
There is no offence: if it is unintentional; if he is unmindful; if he does not know; if he is ill; in emergencies; if he is mad; if he is the first offender.
