[832] Origin at Sāvatthī (Sāvatthīnidānaṃ). Now on that occasion the group-of-six bhikkhus ate almsfood picking into it here and there [omasitvā] … "I will eat almsfood in uninterrupted order (sapadānaṃ)" — thus should the training be undertaken.
Almsfood should be eaten in uninterrupted order. Whoever, out of disrespect, eats almsfood picking into it here and there: an offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa).
There is no offense: if it is unintentional; if he is without mindfulness; if he does not know; if he is ill; if, while giving to others, he makes a hollow in it; if, while heaping it into another vessel, he makes a hollow in it; in the case of extra delicacies (uttaribhaṅga); in emergencies; if he is mad; if he is the first offender (ādikammika).
