[834] Origin at Sāvatthī. Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhus ate almsfood having pressed it down from the top (of the heap) … "I will not eat almsfood having pressed it down from the top" — thus the training is to be observed.
Almsfood is not to be eaten having been pressed down from the top. Whatever bhikkhu, out of disrespect, eats almsfood having pressed it down from the top: an offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa).
There is no offense: for one acting unintentionally; for one acting unmindfully; for one who does not know; for one who is ill; if, when only a little remains, having gathered it together into one place and pressed it down, he eats it; in emergencies; for one who is mad; for the first offender (ādikammika).
