[846] Origin at Sāvatthī. Now at that time the bhikkhus of the group of six ate stuffing their cheeks … "I will not eat stuffing the cheeks" — thus is the training to be observed.
One should not eat stuffing the cheeks. Whichever bhikkhu, out of disrespect, eats having made a bulge in the cheek on one side or on both sides, incurs an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa).
There is no offense: if it is unintentional; if it is done unmindfully; if one does not know; if one is ill; in the case of fruits large and small; in emergencies; if one is insane; if one is the first offender.
