[868] Origin at Sāvatthī. Now on that occasion the group-of-six bhikkhus taught the Dhamma to one whose head was covered … "I shall not teach the Dhamma to one whose head is covered who is not sick" — thus should the training be undertaken.
"Whose head is covered" means: one who is wrapped up together with the head, so it is said. The Dhamma should not be taught to one whose head is covered who is not sick. Whoever, out of disrespect, teaches the Dhamma to one whose head is covered who is not sick, incurs an offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa).
There is no offense: if it is unintentional; if it is done absentmindedly; if he does not know; if the person is sick; if he teaches after having him uncover his head; in emergencies; if he is mad; if he is the first offender.
