[481] Bhikkhus, one of faith (saddhā) and confidence should be known by three grounds. By what three? He is one who desires to see the virtuous; he is one who desires to hear the true Dhamma (saddhamma); and he dwells at home with a mind free from the stain of miserliness, freely generous, open-handed, delighting in relinquishment, devoted to those who ask, delighting in giving and sharing gifts. By these three grounds, bhikkhus, one of faith and confidence should be known. One who desires to see the virtuous, who wishes to hear the true Dhamma, having removed the stain of miserliness — he indeed is called one of faith.
