[486] [47] Bhikkhus, there are these three characteristics of the conditioned (saṅkhata-lakkhaṇa) belonging to the conditioned (saṅkhata). What three? (1) Its arising is discerned; (2) its passing away is discerned; (3) alteration of it while it persists is discerned. These, bhikkhus, are the three characteristics of the conditioned belonging to the conditioned.
