[56] Bhikkhus, if a bhikkhu attends to a mind of loving-kindness (mettācitta) even for the mere duration of a finger-snap, this bhikkhu, bhikkhus, is said to dwell not devoid of jhāna, to be one who carries out the Teacher's teaching, one who complies with the instruction, and one who does not eat the country's almsfood in vain — how much more, then, those who cultivate it frequently!
