[55] Bhikkhus, if a bhikkhu develops a mind of loving-kindness (mettacitta) even for the duration of a finger-snap, this bhikkhu, bhikkhus, is said to dwell not empty of meditative absorption (jhāna), to act upon the Teacher's teaching, to comply with his instruction, and not to eat the country's almsfood in vain. How much more, then, those who cultivate it abundantly!
