[209] Bhikkhus, I will teach you the person of bad character (pāpadhamma), the one of worse character than the person of bad character, the person of good character (kalyāṇadhamma), and the one of better character than the person of good character. Listen to that. … And what, bhikkhus, is the person of bad character? Here, bhikkhus, a certain person is one who destroys life … is one who holds wrong view. This one, bhikkhus, is called the person of bad character.
And what, bhikkhus, is the one of worse character than the person of bad character? Here, bhikkhus, a certain person himself destroys life and encourages another in the destruction of life … he himself holds wrong view and encourages another in wrong view. This one, bhikkhus, is called the one of worse character than the person of bad character.
And what, bhikkhus, is the person of good character? Here, bhikkhus, a certain person abstains from the destruction of life … is one who holds right view. This one, bhikkhus, is called the person of good character.
And what, bhikkhus, is the one of better character than the person of good character?
