[127] Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu possessing five qualities is not fit to live withdrawn from the Saṅgha. Which five? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is not content (asantuṭṭha) with any kind of robe whatsoever; he is not content with any kind of almsfood whatsoever; he is not content with any kind of lodging whatsoever; he is not content with any kind of medicine and requisites for the sick whatsoever; and he dwells full of thoughts of sensuality (kāmasaṅkappa). Possessing these five qualities, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is not fit to live withdrawn from the Saṅgha.
Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu possessing five qualities is fit to live withdrawn from the Saṅgha. Which five? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is content (santuṭṭha) with any kind of robe whatsoever; he is content with any kind of almsfood whatsoever; he is content with any kind of lodging whatsoever; he is content with any kind of medicine and requisites for the sick whatsoever; and he dwells full of thoughts of renunciation (nekkhammasaṅkappa). Possessing these five qualities, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is fit to live withdrawn from the Saṅgha.
