[153] Bhikkhus, one who possesses five qualities, even while listening to the true Dhamma (saddhamma), is incapable of entering the fixed course (niyāma) consisting of rightness (sammatta) in wholesome qualities. Which five? One listens to the Dhamma as a denigrator, obsessed by denigration (makkha); one listens to the Dhamma with a fault-finding (upārambha) mind, seeking flaws; one is hostile in mind and callous toward the teacher of the Dhamma; one is of poor wisdom, dull, and stupid; one conceives that one has understood what one has not understood. Bhikkhus, one who possesses these five qualities, even while listening to the true Dhamma, is incapable of entering the fixed course consisting of rightness in wholesome qualities.
