[198] Bhikkhus, speech endowed with five factors is well spoken, not badly spoken; it is blameless and beyond reproach by the wise. What are the five? It is spoken at the proper time; it is spoken truthfully; it is spoken gently; it is spoken connected with benefit; and it is spoken with a mind (citta) of loving-kindness. Bhikkhus, speech endowed with these five factors is well spoken, not badly spoken; it is blameless and beyond reproach by the wise.
