[216] Bhikkhus, there are these five dangers in the lack of patience (akkhanti). What five? One is unloved and disagreeable to many people; one is cruel (luddho); one is remorseful; one dies confused; and with the breakup of the body, after death, one is reborn in a state of loss (apāya), a bad destination, the lower world, hell. These, bhikkhus, are the five dangers in the lack of patience.
Bhikkhus, there are these five benefits of patience (khanti). What five? One is beloved and agreeable to many people; one is not cruel (aluddho); one is not remorseful; one dies unconfused; and with the breakup of the body, after death, one is reborn in a good destination, a heavenly world. These, bhikkhus, are the five benefits of patience.
