[218] Bhikkhus, there are these five dangers (ādīnava) in one who is uninspiring (apāsādika). What five? Those without confidence do not gain confidence; some of those with confidence change their minds; the Teacher's teaching (sāsana) is not carried out; the later generation follows his example; and his own mind (citta) does not become confident. These, bhikkhus, are the five dangers in one who is uninspiring. Bhikkhus, there are these five benefits (ānisaṃsa) in one who is inspiring (pāsādika). What five? Those without confidence gain confidence; those with confidence increase still further; the Teacher's teaching is carried out; the later generation follows his example; and his own mind becomes confident. These, bhikkhus, are the five benefits in one who is inspiring.
