[248] Bhikkhus, there are these five dangers (ādīnavā) in misconduct by mind (manoduccarita). What five? One blames oneself; the wise, having investigated, censure one; a bad report of one's fame spreads abroad; one falls away from the true Dhamma (saddhamma); one becomes established in what is not the true Dhamma. These, bhikkhus, are the five dangers in misconduct by mind.
Bhikkhus, there are these five benefits (ānisaṃsā) in good conduct by mind (manosucarita). What five? One does not blame oneself; the wise, having investigated, praise one; a good report of one's fame spreads abroad; one falls away from what is not the true Dhamma; one becomes established in the true Dhamma. These, bhikkhus, are the five benefits in good conduct by mind.
